About

Chris Johns - South Florida

I'm an environmental attorney. A good deal of my legal work intersects with Everglades restoration, which is how I came to spend so much time out in that wilderness in the first place.

Photography started as a creative outlet from my day job, and it became the reason I kept going back. I'd come across a space, or an animal, or a particular kind of light that stopped me, and I wanted to capture it for others to enjoy.

What draws me is remote landscape, intimate wild places, and candid portraits — people and animals being themselves. I'm after an emotional tug in a photograph: something that pulls you in before you've worked out why, and then keeps giving up small details the longer you look.

Most of what's here came out of Florida. Some of it came from further afield. If one of these images does something for you, I'd like to hear about it. That's the best part of putting them up.
